 Methodology

The System of Adaptation to Multifunctionality will be made of 2 case studies for each member country of CEJA (European Council of Young Farmers) which will represent a significant sample of the ongoing experiences in these countries.

The development of the Case Studies will be based on two other outputs:
- An article about the state of the art of Multifunctionality in agriculture;
- A survey about the social, economic and training profile of young farmers;

By means of questionnaires, distributed through the CEJA network, the most interesting European experiences of multifunctional farming will be selected and turned into Case Studies.
The case studies will represent the core of the training system for young farmers.

The decision of using this methodology is based on the belief that farmers should learn from their own real life experiences.

 What does the project consist of?

The “Agri-Multifunctionality II” project is based on the successful experience of another project called “Agri-Multifunctionality” (developed in the framework of the Pilot Project actions of the Lifelong Learning Programme).

This project developed a training system for farmers who aim at introducing multifunctionality in their farms.

The training system was based on 10 Case Studies for each participating Country: Spain, Italy and Ireland.

Due to the success of this pilot project a consortium made of professional in the sector of Rural Development started a new project which aims at transferring the Agri-Multifunctionality training methodology to another context:

- European young Farmers;

- All the EU members countries.

 To whom is the project addressed?

The project addresses the primary sector and the fundamental issue of Rural Development.

The short term target group is represented by young farmers:

For farmers who have been in farming for many years, this project offers them the possibility of adapting to a very different new reality.

For young farmers who are joining family farms, this project prepares them to tackle this new situation in an innovative way giving them the required training.

The long term target group is represented by institutions, decision-makers and organizations dealing with agriculture at European, National and Local level.

  Aims

This project aims at addressing the ageing farm workforce and the ongoing flow of young people out of the countryside as a serious challenge to the sustainability of the European rural economy.
To reach this general objective the Agri-Multifunctionality II project expect to provide farmers with the means to develop multifunctionality on their farms.

In order to fulfill this objective we aim at making farmers capable of creating new ideas and put them into practice by giving them the appropriate training.

The specific objectives of this Training System are:

  1. To motivate the target group to adapt towards multifunctionality.
  2. To provide farmers with sufficient training in order to create new economic activities and prepare them to put them into practice.
  3. To fix the rural population.
  4. To guarantee farmers’ incomes.
To incorporate equal opportunities policies in the Agricultural Sector.
